We hope you enjoy our site and take a moment to drop us a line.
Established in 1972, Wynterwynd's goal has always been to produce Russian Blue cats that meet the CFA standard. Beauty, temperament and health are of equal importance.
Annette Wilson began showing Russian Blue cats in 1973. The first Wynterwynd litter was born in 1976.
The cats accompanied Robert and Annette Wilson on moves from Michigan to Illinois to Nebraska to Minnesota back to Illinois and then to Maryland and finally back to Michigan where they all plan to stay!
This hardy breed originated in the cold climate of Northern Russia. The breed as we know it today was primarily developed in Great Britain and the Scandinavian countries.
Russian Blues make wonderful pets. They are quiet, subtly affectionate, playful and loyal. They generally get along well, once properly introduced, with other family members - animal and human!
The Russian Blue cat has a very short and dense coat, shimmering silver-blue in color and silky to the touch. Very little grooming is required - daily combing during their short summer shedding season and "hand grooming" (petting) keeps their coat lustrous.
A medium sized breed, the Russian Blue is svelte and fine boned. However, the adult coat is so dense it stands out from the body, giving an appearance of a larger cat. A full grown female should weigh 6 to 8 pounds, a male 7 to 9 pounds.
Wynterwynd maintains a small cattery that produces some Russian Blue Kittens available as pets.
